I rarely watched Korean Drama. There were a period while I'm finishing my undergraduate thesis, I watched K-Drama almost every day for stress release. Then, having to resort to easier resources (there were no Netflix back then), I stopped following the trend. The K-Drama and K-pop storm, have since then become something alien to me. Surprisingly, all of those dormant happy memories have resurrected recently as I stumbled upon a light K-Drama, "Hometown Cha Cha Cha" on Netflix.
See, here is the thing, I don't even know who are the actors/actress in this series. I really love the story, and to be honest, these infectious vibes of companionships despite different conflict portrayed through the lovely characters just got into me. But I noticed a couple things that I really like from watching light Korean Drama: 1) The way they use their mobile phones, somehow makes me want to text someone; 2) It's the story of each character that motivates me to enjoy my current life; 3) It's the coffee shop scenes that made me want to perch in a coffee shop somewhere and write a journal entry while in there.
But ultimately, we have to come to the number 1 reason why I giggled so much while watching this series. Will most of us agree? I don't know, but here's mine. The sweetness and the anticipation of a relationship being built is what attracts me. We all remember that period surrounding our first dates; the part where we begin to learn more about our love interest. Silly giggles during our first flirty texts, and that make-up-dates after all the small fights over who doesn't text the night before.
As relationship comes to its advanced stage, we start to lose these little touches. We got casual. Small fights become that dirty laundry we try to ignore, the big fights become a debate contest of who did what and whodun'it. The dates become casual lunches, or just fulfilling a new agenda of watching the recent Marvel movies. This is the part where K-Drama rarely covers. Relationship is hard work, it does not formed perfectly within 10 episodes. However, the good thing about K-Drama is that they constantly remind us how to reconnect, because during those period of early stage relationship, we are connecting with our loved ones.
We are willing to connect with our loved ones.
